The New-Year Reception of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Is Held in Beijing

On the evening of Dec. 7, 2010, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held the New Year Reception 2011 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in honor of the diplomatic envoys as well as representatives of international organizations in China and their spouses at Fangfeiyuan, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. More than 400 people including State Councilor Dai Bingguo, leaders of related agencies and departments as well as Chinese and foreign guests were present at the reception.

In his address, Foreign Minister Yang thanked the diplomatic envoys for their valuable contributions to increasing understanding and friendly cooperation between China and countries in the world over the past year. He pointed out the global economy in general has got out of the shadow of the financial crisis and embarked on the path of recovery in 2010. Against the backdrop of profound and complex changes in the international situation, countries have strived to seek peace through cooperation and promote development through stability and have also demonstrated a firm determination to work together to address challenges. China is more closely linked and interacted with the world. China’s cooperation with the world continues to rise. China has made new contributions to world peace, stability and development. 2010 is an extraordinary year for China's peaceful development. China won the battle against natural disasters such as the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai, and the landslides in Zhouqu. China ensured the stable and rapid economic development, and succeeded in hosting the Shanghai World Expo and the Guangzhou Asian Games and completing the lunar mission of Chang'e II satellite.

Yang pointed out 2011 marks the first year of the second decade in the new century and the beginning year for China's Twelfth Five-Year Plan. China’s development goals are consistent with the world. The areas of cooperation between China and the world will be broadened. China and the world are facing new historical opportunities. China will actively adapt to new changes and requirements in international and domestic situations. China will always take the road of peaceful development and unswervingly follow a win-win opening-up strategy. China will adhere to peaceful development, scientific development, cooperative development, and win-win development, and work together with the international community to make new contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity.

Nolana Ta-Ama, dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Togo's ambassador to China, expressed the best wishes of the New Year to the Chinese government and people on behalf of the diplomatic corps and congratulated China upon the significant diplomatic achievements in various fields over the past year. He said in the past year the Chinese government adhered to the right direction, kept up with the times, and focused on the development of the people. The Chinese government led the Chinese people to overcome many abrupt natural disasters and successfully held the Shanghai World Expo. China made active efforts to build a harmonious society, practiced the five principles of peaceful coexistence, and was committed to developing good neighborly relations and bilateral and multilateral cooperation on the basis of mutual respect. China safeguarded regional stability, promoted South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, and made important contributions to world peace, security and development. He sincerely wished the Chinese and Chinese diplomacy to achieve greater success in the New Year.
