Wen Jiabao Meets with Secretary General of the League of Arab States Moussa and Libyan Foreign Minister Kousa

On May 13, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Tianjin respectively with Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amre Moussa and Libyan Foreign Minister Mousa Kousa, who are here for the fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum.

In the meeting with Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amre Moussa, Wen said China-Arab relationship set a good example for diverse civilizations to learn from each other, make exchanges, and seek common development. The two sides have set up more than ten cooperative mechanisms and held colorful activities since the China-Arab Cooperation Forum was launched six years ago, and the forum has become an important platform to enhance collective dialogue and pragmatic cooperation between China and the Arab world. Wen said at the upcoming meeting, the two sides would discuss establishing China-Arab strategic cooperative relationship, which was the demand of the new situation and was in the fundamental interest of both sides and conducive to the world’s peaceful development. Wen said he believed the ministerial meeting would be a success. He hailed the forum's important contributions to strengthening solidarity among Arab countries and advancing China-Arab friendly cooperation, expressing belief that the League of Arab States would have a greater role to play and that more achievements would be made in the development of China-Arab ties.

Moussa said building the China-Arab Cooperation Forum is a strong aspiration shared by all Arab states. The Arab states hope to reinforce political exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation and promote dialogue among civilizations through the mechanism of the forum. The Arab states remain committed to realizing regional peace, development and progress and hail the achievements made in China’s development. Moussa spoke highly of China's positive and constructive role in the Middle East issues, expressing hope to conduct exchanges and cooperation with China and push forward Arab-China relations.

When meeting with Libyan Foreign Minister Mousa Kousa, Wen said Libya, as an important Arab country, has actively participated in the forum’s activities. Libya will host the third China-Arab Friendship Conference later this year. China was ready to work with Libya to achieve new progress in China-Arab relations. Wen said China valued friendship with Libya, and was willing to expand bilateral trade cooperation and enhance coordination in international affairs, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Kousa said the Arab and Libyan people appreciated China's promotion of justice in the international arena and its support for Arab justice. Libya, as the rotating chair of the League of Arab States summit, was willing to contribute to building the China-Arab Cooperation Forum and promote Arab-China relations, Kousa said. He said Libya hoped to develop a long-term friendship and cooperation with China and enhance dialogue and coordination on international and regional issues.

Zhang Gaoli, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, State Councilor Dai Bingguo, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Mayor of Tianjin Municipality Huang Xingguo and other officials attended the meetings.
