Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan's Comment on Sudan's Signing of a Comprehensive Peace Deal

Q: A comprehensive peace deal of Sudan was officially signed on January 9th. What's your comment on this?

A: The signing of the comprehensive peace deal on January 9th in Kenya between the Sudanese Government and the southern Sudan People's Liberation Movement is an event of historical significance. It meets with Sudanese people's wish for peace and development. It helps Sudan achieve long-term stability and is of great significance in maintaining regional peace and stability. China expresses its warm congratulation on the signing of the peace deal.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing have sent delegraphs of congratulation to Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed El-Bashir and Minister of External Relations Mustafa Othman Ismail respectively.

China's Assistant Foreign Minister Lu Guozeng attended the signing ceremony of the peace deal as the special envoy of the Chinese Government. We sincerely hope the comprehensive peace deal will be implemented smoothly and Sudan will make greater achievement in seeking peace and development.
